About Betsy

I am a professional piano tutor with 6 years of teaching experience and a record of successfully guiding around 300 students, including high school learners, college students, and adults. My lessons focus on improving technical skills, musical understanding, and performance confidence while fostering creativity and expressive playing.

My teaching philosophy balances structured instruction with encouragement, emphasising proper posture, hand coordination, finger exercises, scales, chord transitions, rhythm training, sight-reading, and musical interpretation.

I ensure students learn both technical accuracy and expressive performance, helping them connect emotionally with the music they play. Each lesson is planned with technical exercises, theory, repertoire practice, and performance preparation, and I provide strategies for effective home practice.

Many students have achieved high distinctions in graded examinations and performed confidently in recitals, competitions, and school events. My mission is to nurture confident, expressive, and skilled pianists who enjoy learning and cultivate a lifelong passion for piano and music.

About the lesson

My piano teaching methodology is centred on personalisation, flexibility, collaboration, and positivity. I begin by understanding each student’s learning style, musical background, and goals. Some students respond best to visual learning through sheet music, others to listening and repetition, and some through guided hands-on practice.

I adapt my lessons to match these preferences. I focus on building strong technical foundations such as posture, finger control, rhythm accuracy, scales, and expressive dynamics. I break complex compositions into smaller sections so students can master them confidently.

Flexibility allows me to adjust pacing based on progress. Collaboration encourages students to set goals and choose repertoire that inspires them.

I maintain a positive environment where mistakes are treated as learning opportunities. In addition to piano, I teach music theory, ear training, harmony, and sight-reading to strengthen complete musical development.
