About Beth

Having recently achieved an A* in AQA A Level Sociology, I possess a unique insight into what it takes to do well in this demanding qualification. Currently I am working towards a degree in the Social Sciences (including Sociology and Education studies) and have previous 1-to-1 tutoring experience at a GCSE level.

About the lesson

I base my lessons around skills that will prepare a student for the AQA A Level exam e.g. decoding questions, structuring answers and streamlining the writing process to maximise marks within the time limit.

While exam preparation is important, this always stems from a thorough understanding of the theory behind sociological ideas which can often be challenging to understand. I therefore try to break each theory down into digestible chunks and teach in a way that relates every idea to what will be required in the exam. For example: 'Let's understand Marxism by comparing it to Functionalism', this type of lesson plan not only helps teach a new concept but refreshes students' understanding of other concepts and ties in the idea of 'evaluation' which is central to achieving top marks in essay questions.

I want my students to play an active part in their own learning process and hope to bring sociology alive as far more than an exam, it is something that seeks to explain everything we experience as people in society.
