About Kannan GR
I am GR Santhanam, Carnatic vocal teacher with deep appreciation for nuances of sruthi, swara, raaga and bhaava. I feel blessed to be gifted with knowledge of divine music.
I have been teaching for 6+ years. My musical knowledge comes through teachers from the Maharajapuram and the Alathur lineages.
My inspiration to sing and share the joy of music with others comes from hearing about the purely devotional lives of great composers such as Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa, as well as contemporary living examples of their teachings. Their songs convey much needed, deep messages to humanity through the medium of music. I have deep respect and appreciation for the purity of such saints, and I strive to inculcate the same in my students.

Beyond simply the musical aspects, I focus on the essence of music, which is the bhaava in any composition. I encourage students to understand a composition by relating to the context in the composer's life from which a composition sprang forth. I teach only male students. All levels of learners are welcome.

Details
The first month of classes (up to 8 classes) is totally free. Beyond that, fees should not be a barrier to the sincerely interested student of music. Fees will be discussed on a per student basis.
