About John

While my language learning passion was originally French and Haitian Creole, I later fell in love with the Spanish language and Hispanic Culture. I have been privileged to have used Spanish internationally on various occasions, and even more often within the United States. I love teaching languages, and sharing this amazing culture with others!

About the lesson

I believe that it is important to learn the language by listening and responding to conversation in the target language. I attempt to teach the Spanish language by immersing the learning in the language. I believe in building grammar slowly, following mastery of a topic rather then pushing ahead too quickly. I believe mastery of intake and outtake is key, and will result in more quality ability in the target language. I also believe that by applying cultural topics, one will be able to use target vocabulary to express themselves in context.

John Barham has helped me in my German and I'm pretty good at German. I went to Germany this summer and I could actually talk to people. He has helped me with German and he is always willing to help someone with anything. I do believe that John is a trust worthy teacher and more importantly a trust worthy person

I met John at an old church I attended and we became good friends. One day I was joking around with him about him teaching me French; that night he brought a binder full of lessons, set up a Google classroom, and even gave me homework to do! I was expecting to just learn a couple words, ya know? He is a very diligent and patient person. He will go over something a million times till you are comfortable to move on to something new. He can be a little tough and bring you out of your comfort zone, but it's just because he wants the best for you and teach you something new. John is an amazing individual and you can expect nothing less then greatness after working with him.
