About Ms Shiren

I studied Spanish from secondary school through to the University of Toronto and various professional positions, including an internship in Spanish-English translation and work in the Spanish-speaking world. I also studied Spanish-English translation at York University-Glendon College and offer services in Spanish interpretation and traveled extensively in the Spanish-speaking world. I have been teaching Spanish and other subjects, to children and adults alike, for over 10 years. I am an attentive teacher and focus on the unique needs of each student. Coming from an English-speaking country, I can understand the weaknesses common to English speakers and can target these limitations, helping them to surpass these on their way to fluency.

About the lesson

I look for a student's strengths and weak points to focus on those areas, with an eye to building confidence in speaking, reading and eventually using the language with native speakers. A strong focus is placed on the use and understanding of grammar rules, spelling and phonetics in Spanish, improving pronunciation, and building skills in reading and writing. Many activities for listening comprehension and cultural comprehension are incorporated into learning. Preparation in IB and AP Spanish is also available.

Perfect! I first contacted Ms. Shiren when searching for a tutor for my younger sister. Ms. Shiren made it a very smooth process from the beginning, with her prompt and clear communication and her positive and friendly demeanour. I appreciated Ms. Shiren’s goal-focused approach to learning. She has helped my sister make amazing progress in her Spanish and still continuing. We are lucky to have found Ms. Shiren. She has made the whole tutoring process and experience a very enjoyable and enriching one!
