About Isabel
During my time studying Spanish at Boise State, I lived abroad in Madrid, Spain. There, I refined by skills that I have been building on for 22 years.
My introduction to the Spanish language was oral, at the early stages of language development. I then attended elementary school at a language immersion charter school, where I learned the basics of reading and writing. I kept up my studies in high school, and in college really took it to the next level. In Madrid, I challenged myself by immersing myself in Castilian Spanish. There I refined my high level academic speaking, reading, and writing skills.
With a variety of Spanish learning experiences under my belt, I know what works for language learners. As a tutor, my goal is to inspire curiosity, and excitement for learning a second language. When it feels like a chore, it is unlikely the language will stick. I see learning a new language as an exciting journey, that not only enhance the connections in out brain furthering our intelligence, but enhance our connection to the world. If we can look at learning Spanish this way-- success is eminent.

My approach to tutoring is to encourage students to think and speak in Spanish first. I believe the more time being fully immersed in the language, the better. While I will always fall back on translations when necessary, I try to give as much exposure to the language during a tutoring session as possible.
A typical lesson plan with me would look like some conversational warm ups, followed by a grammar and a vocabulary lesson, ending with a writing exercise.
As well as working with adults, I have a plethora of experience working with children in various fields. I am able to tutor Spanish learners from the beginning, up until the upper division level.
