About Helen
I'm a busy Mum in Cumbria with two young primary aged children. Since my youngest was born I work part time in an inner city school teaching Year 6 and have done for 5 years, prior to this I worked at the same school in other year groups. I have extensive experience of working with children who have EHCPs and individual education plans. While I like to build up a comfortable working relationship with pupils I expect everyone to try their best and commit to the learning they are wanting to develop in. I encourage all pupils to have a go, the best way to identify and assess what they are really capable of, then using appropriate increments and planning work out a way to move forward and develop happily and comfortably.

My approach to teaching any child of primary school age is to view the child as a whole person. From experience of working in large city schools over 12 years, how important it is to build a strong comfortable relationship with every child. At university I studied BA hons Early Years Education with teaching qualification and enjoyed and progressed in my career working with this age, after having my own children I returned to work with year 2 children, preparing them for their Key stage 1 SATs while also providing an inclusive delivery of the appropriate curriculum. For the last 5 years I have worked primarily with upper key stage 2, specifically year 6 SATs and secondary school preparation. While specialising in Year 6 Maths and Spelling and Grammar tutoring I have extensive knowledge of supporting children with special educational needs throughout the primary age.
