About Mendi

I started learning Tabla from the age of 3 years old, so I feel you are never too young or old to start learning an instrument. I have a B.A. Bachelor of Arts, M.A. Master of Arts (Honours) in Indian Tabla music, with over 30 years of experience performing and teaching around the world, naming a few, UK, Brazil, Switzerland, India, Argentina, Mexico, USA. I perform nationally and internationally as a percussionist and have collaborated with high calibre artists such as Peter Gabriel, Darius Brubeck, Ananda Shankar, Shalil Shankar and Malkit Singh MBE. I have performed in venues such as Gandhi Stadium - India 2001, Chill Stadium - South America 2005, Bellas Artes - Mexico City 2009, Womad Festival 2010, Victoria Town Hall - Brazil 2014, Etihad Stadium - Manchester 2017, O2 Arena - London 2017, Symphony Hall - Birmingham 2018 to name a few. In 2017 Mendi performed with Take That on the Wonderland arena and stadium UK and Ireland Tour playing to over half a million people. One of the shows, from the O2 Arena, broadcast live in 600 cinemas around the world.

About the lesson

I specialise in teaching you the traditional method of how to notate, recite, count and play different techniques and rhythms, as well as teaching you how to accompany Indian Classical, Folk, Devotional, Bollywood, Bhangra and Fusion Music, depending on the interests of the individual student and the goals they set together. I love teaching and seeing the student grow and enjoying playing music.
