About Ahmed

Ahmed El Shaer is a contemporary Egyptian artist who was born in Cairo in 1981 and now lives and works in New York, USA. El Shaer is a multidisciplinary artist whose work includes installation, photography, sound, and moving images, as well as a keen interest in new technologies. holds a B.F.A. from the Faculty of Art and Education and is a Ph.D. student in the computing and games department at Abertay University in Scotland, UK. He has shown in a number of international art venues, including the 56th Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy (2015). Bamako Biennale, Mali (2011) Cairotronica New Media Festival takes place in Cairo, Egypt. White Box Sanctioned Array, New York, USA (2010) solo exhibition at New York's Museum of the Moving Image (2019). International Rencontres Festival, Paris/Berlin

El Shaer has won numerous awards, including a Fulbright fellowship at UCLA Game Lab in Los Angeles in 2018, a Salon of Youth Honored Award in 2002, the first award in media in 2003, and the first award in media art in Cairo, Egypt, in 2013.

He has received several artist-in-residence awards, including Prohelvetia in Zurich in 2009, Cite International d'Arte Paris in 2016, and ART OMI RESIDENCY in New York, USA in 2012.

His work can be found in public collections such as New Cinema in Paris, France, and Cairo's Museum of Modern Art. Contemporary Practices Magazine, Hanan al-Cinema Affections for the Moving Image, and MIT Press have all published his work. Laura U. Marks wrote this.
