About Maritha
My name is Maritha and I am a teacher and native Afrikaans speaker. I currently teach Afrikaans Huistaal in the classroom, and I have also taught English for almost two years. Before that, I taught Life Sciences to Grades 10 to 12 and Natural Sciences to Grades 4 to 9. I hold a BHSc degree in Occupational Health and Hygiene, so I have a strong background in the life and natural sciences.
I became a teacher because I love seeing a learner go from "I don't understand this" to "I've got it!" I believe every learner can succeed when the work is explained clearly, at their own pace, in a relaxed environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. I work with the curriculum every day, so I know what learners are expected to know and how to prepare them for tests and exams

I am a practising Afrikaans Huistaal teacher and a native Afrikaans speaker, so I know exactly how the CAPS curriculum works and how tests and exams are set. My lessons are relaxed but structured, and I adapt them to each learner's level and pace so they feel confident and not pressured.
A typical lesson starts with a short recap of what was difficult, then focuses on one skill: reading comprehension, grammar, language structures, creative writing or test and exam preparation. We practise with examples, and I explain mistakes clearly so the learner understands why. Lessons are available in Afrikaans or English, whichever the learner prefers.
My lessons are aimed at Grade 4 to 9 learners who want better marks, stronger reading and writing skills, or extra support to catch up
