About Elaine

I am 57 years old and have a lot of experience.

I first home schooled my youngest when he was being bullied, for 5 months at the age of 10, before he went to boarding school. At the age of 14/15 I again tutored my youngest son for a year, after his brother/my son was killed in Afghanistan. I tutored, privately, two years ago.

I taught English, Geography, Biology, History, Maths, Science and handling a horse to a 15 year old girl. I am a swimming teacher, a horse rider. I am a qualified dog trainer.

I used to be a legal secretary, Legal PA, for over 25 years, last working in the legal world in 2004. I then studied and became a Swimming Teacher.

At present I am studying Equine Sports Massage and Rehabilitation, part time. This of course includes knowing the full anatomy of the horse.

I am very capable of making a student feel at ease and reassuring them that they can do the work.

About the lesson

I like to engaged the student and give them the confidence they need to learn. Some students have come to me because they have felt out of place at school, and/or have been told they are not capable of the work because of their behaviour. The bad behaviour comes from the student being extremely embarrassed as she/he cannot understand, stay up to date with the subject.

I always keep giving encouragement, and praise and won't take "I dont know" or "I am too stupid", for an answer.

I don't believe in demeaning a student.

I will set up tasks, do work sheets and the student of course needs to study everyday for 30 minutes at home and do the homework set. Next day, as in English, a spelling test will be given, and a passage out of the subject book will be read, from the chapter they had to revise.

How fast or slow, will depend on the student's ability at the beginning. I do concentrate on their weak points, but don't make everyday a lesson on this. It will be done gently.

To me, getting the student's trust is very important at the beginning, and ensuring they are able to ask you anything, no matter how trivial. As from that stage, the student will improve.
