About Christine

At the age of three years my Dad threw me into the local pool to teach me to swim. It isn’t a technique I have ever used or ever will. As a kid/teen I swam for the club at that same pool and it was there I first qualified as a swimming teacher and lifeguard. We did adult lessons, school lessons, sessions for disabled swimmers, and council lessons all great fun, the experience proved invaluable later on when I moved to a different area with my husband.

I saw an opening for quality 1 to 1 swimming tuition whilst working in a leisure centre as a Lifeguard/Swimming Teacher. My business idea received start up funding and a training grant. The training grant was used to finance the Adult & Child Instructors course, Aquacise Instructors course and Swimming Tutors course. The first course allowed classes that were much needed to commence locally, and the second allowed a popular fitness class to recommence. Part of the teaching duties that I took on, were contract swimming teaching for the local council.

I started with two pupils in January 2004, and went on to teach seventy-eight one to one lessons in 2011, at which point, I decided to start a waiting list, as I always seemed to be in a pool. At that time, my working wardrobe was a variety of very gaudy swimming costumes (that made me easily stand out and that the kids loved), two wetsuits, and a lot of fleeces, boots, and loads and loads of towels.

I am never going to swim for TeamGB in the Olympics but my Husband says I could bore for Britain about teaching swimming. I would prefer to say that it is a subject that I am passionate about.

I was once asked what do I dislike about teaching swimming; truthfully, nothing. Whilst I was still teaching in 2015, our dog, decided to test the strength of my swimmer's shoulders, by chasing a cat whilst I grabbed a post to secure the mutt. Daisy won.

After roughly a year in physiotherapy with a dislocated shoulder and a frozen shoulder, returning to University where I graduated with a BSc(Hons) in a Biomedical Science degree that focused on aspects of Sport & Fitness and Anatomy and Physiology in the first two years. (also joining the Swimming team and Water Polo team and surprising the coach with my ability to tread water – gained from decades of treading water beside 1 to 1 lessons) teaching again on a part-time basis to keep my student debt down and of course COVID-19, I am out of the swimming teaching loop. Rather than go back via lifeguarding etc. I thought I would create my own loop.

About the lesson

• With 30yrs experience teaching a wide range of swimming abilities and ages, in 1 to 1 and group settings. From 2004 to 2015, my role focused on individual lessons and adult learners.

• Included in my lesson plans are many exercises that could be repeated on dry land as a technique to either train muscle memory or help to rectify stroke issues.

• Teaching 1to1 is more enjoyable as the finer issues of what could be developed in an individual swimmer's stroke can get lost in the constraints imposed by group lessons - time, other swimmers' abilities, etc.

• Offering email and/or video support. Private swimming lessons are costly, (I know, I charged for them!) Whether you or your children are quite literally, struggling with swimming or your issue relating to water has been a challenge for some time. This is a more cost effective way to have tailor made swimming tuition.

• I am very happy to give any email/video (blended if preferred) advice on a continuing plan or one-off basis on anything relating to swimming tuition and the teaching and tuition of swimming, progressive practices, stroke analysis, stroke problems, etc. I don't write coaching plans, sorry.
