About Amy

Hi, I'm Amy and I'm a third-year English student at the University of York. Before this I attended a top state grammar school, where I achieved a 9 and an 8 in my GCSE English exams, and an A* in A-level English Literature.

I've been a tutor to students of various ages and abilities for years now, including several students with learning difficulties, but this has largely been on an unofficial basis. I've taken the decision to make my tutoring a more professional business, and turn it into a legitimate form of employment.

Being a student, my schedule is fairly flexible, so I can do sessions during the day or in the evening, whichever works best for you. I'm also able to change times and days from week to week if that's something that would benefit you.

About the lesson

I have experience working with students of all ages and abilities, and my approach to teaching would vary depending on the individual's specific ability level and needs. A typical lesson would be an hour once a week, but that is very much flexible.

A-level - These sessions would largely focus on structural technique and the finer points of analysis, going through more complicated concepts whilst still tailoring the difficulty level to my student's needs. I'm fairly well-read already, but I'm happy to catch myself up not only on the texts the student is actually studying, but also on the wider reading around these texts to ensure students can bring in more refined points

GCSE - Having gone through the new GCSE English exams myself, I picked up many handy tips and tricks that I'm able to pass on to students. In the past, I've worked with students that just needed boosting up to the A/A* standard, but also students at a more foundation level to ensure they're able to pass their exams

Younger years - I can go right back to the basics of spelling, punctuation and grammar, and use that as a solid foundation to build better literacy and writing skills.
