About Katie

My name is Katie, and I am an A Level student studying English Language and Literature (predicted A* and A) and Politics at Woodhouse College. I am also a part of two journalism schemes, in which one of my articles won a competition. I have always had a passion for learning English, and for teaching it. I volunteered at Rainbows Girlguiding, in which I worked with young children in a number of enjoyable tasks, including creative writing activities. I believe that with the right mindset, anybody can become a master at English, and I can be the one to help you achieve this. I will tailor my tutoring sessions specifically towards you, focusing on what you find most difficult in the way you learn most effectively.

About the lesson

I can help students with a range of problems they may encounter in English. This can range from the basics such as spelling, phonetics, vocabulary and specialist techniques - to how to write an effective persuasive essay. I am happy to read over students' work and mark it, and can set tasks that will improve any mistakes.

I aim my lessons towards Year 4 to Year 8 students. Depending on the level at which the student is learning, I will adapt my lesson plan. I can teach and assist my students on a wide range of issues they may be encountering with English. For younger students, a focus may be set on spelling, comprehension skills, vocabulary and creative writing. For students slightly older or working at a higher level, we may work on key terminology and persuasive essay skills. I am happy to read over and mark essays, give my top tips, set practice questions to consolidate knowledge and explain, clearly and concisely, the best way to analyse a text and portray this in your written work. In my lessons, we could go over the exam specification to ensure the student knows what an examiner is looking for, and how best to achieve this.

My aim is to make students feel secure in their English, and ensure they achieve their highest potential in the subject. No matter how well the student has performed previously in the subject, I believe that with a lesson tailored specifically towards them, they can improve and become the best in their class. I have a passion for English and teaching, and I am keen to share what I know to help your child.
