A chemistry graduate student with extensive tutoring experience offers tutorials on all aspects of chemistry for high school and university first-year students. I live in Reading. I make chemistry fun, interesting and less scary. I explain each topic from the very basics and relate it to everyday life experiences for easy understanding and remembering. Lessons are interactive, patient and tailored to every student's pace. Many students improve not only their grades but also their confidence in tackling chemistry problems independently.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed a keen interest in chemistry while I was in secondary school, I found the
experiments especially titration fascinating and this ignited my interest in chemistry
particularly. Majoring in sciences in my senior secondary school, I found joy in problemsolving and breaking down complex ideas into simpler parts. My passion for private tutoring
began during university, when I started helping classmates prepare for exams and saw how
much impact personalised guidance could make.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach science-based subjects, particularly chemistry. I enjoy relating chemistry concepts to
real life, day to day applications. For topics which involve memorisation without conceptual
depth, I come up with fun easy ways to assimilate and retain such information and I always
try to link them back to practical relevance.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my chemistry teacher in A-levels was a major influence. She had a way of making
difficult topics easy and genuinely cared about every student’s growth. Her enthusiasm
inspired me to not just learn, but teach others as well.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs patience, adaptability, empathy, and strong subject knowledge. Most
importantly, they should know how to listen to the student and adapt each class to the needs
of the students as learning styles differ, and it's the tutor’s job to identify and respond to each
    student's unique needs.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

As a secondary school student, I once helped a friend who was struggling with chemistry by
coming up with mnemonics and funny chemistry memes to help make the information easy to
remember and relatable. Not only did they finally understand the topics, but the entire class
started using that method. It taught me that learning can be both effective and fun.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

A key challenge I face as a chemistry major is the large volume of information and staying up
to date with evolving scientific knowledge. I continuously work on improving my own
learning and teaching methods so I can better support my students.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I am passionate about teaching and asides being a phd student, I teach chemistry full time at
university level. I am particular about empowering students to gain confidence in themselves.
I love seeing the moment when something finally clicks for them. Beyond that, I’m
passionate about science communication and making knowledge accessible and enjoyable.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions?

I tailor my lessons to each student’s strengths and challenges, and I focus on building both
understanding and confidence. I combine structure with flexibility and always encourage
curiosity. My goal is not just to help students pass exams but to truly enjoy the process of
learning and get them to love chemistry. I believe everyone can learn and enjoy chemistry.
