About Jana

I’m Jana. Sweden has been a big part of my life: I lived and worked there for nine years and learnt Swedish myself as an adult, with all the ups and downs that come with it.

I studied Scandinavian Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin, focusing on Nordic languages, linguistics and Swedish literature, and I’m now doing my Master’s, with an exchange year at UCL in London.

Before teaching, I worked for many years as a nurse in Germany and Sweden, which taught me patience and how to explain things clearly.

Swedish opened up a whole new country, culture and friendships for me, and I’d love to share that with you!

About the lesson

Want to learn Swedish, or help your child keep up the family language? My lessons are friendly, patient and built around you.

Children: playful lessons with games, stories and songs, for kids from Swedish-speaking families in London
Beginners: a clear start with pronunciation, everyday phrases and basic grammar
Moving to Sweden: practical Swedish for work, daily life and Swedish culture
Conversation: relaxed practice to build confidence and fluency

A typical lesson: every lesson follows a clear, simple structure, so you always know where you are and can see your progress:

Warm-up: a short chat in Swedish at your level to get you speaking.
Focus topic: new words, a grammar point, or a real-life situation like ordering a fika or making a phone call.
Practice: we use what you’ve just learned in conversation and exercises.
Review: a quick recap of the key points, plus optional homework.

I can explain in English or German. Mistakes are welcome, because that’s how we learn! I teach in person in East and Central London, or online. Your first lesson is free.
