About Vignesh

Learn Tabla with a Professional, Gharana-Trained Artist Hi! I'm Vignesh Kannan, a Tabla Sangeet Visharad with over 15 years of experience as both a performer and a teacher. I’ve had the privilege of learning under Pandit Mukund Marathe (son of the legendary Pandit Ram Marathe) in Mumbai and Pandit Gyan Singh in Delhi, absorbing the rhythmic heritage of Delhi and Farukhabad Gharanas. Over the years, I've performed and accompanied artists in classical concerts, bhajans, thumris, folk music, and fusion/jazz ensembles. My diverse experience allows me to bring a balanced, versatile, and musical approach to teaching—rooted in tradition but open to creativity. Why Learn from Me? Certified Tabla Sangeet Visharad Trained in the Delhi and Farukhabad Gharanas Experienced in multi-genre accompaniment (classical, devotional, folk, and fusion) Online and in-person classes available (based in Bengaluru) Open to students of all ages and levels—whether you're just starting or looking to sharpen your skills Friendly, personalized guidance with a clear, structured learning path I take pride in creating a supportive, engaging, and respectful space where students can truly enjoy learning tabla at their own pace. My Teaching Approach

As a tabla percussionist with over 15 years of training and performance experience, I believe in nurturing not just technical skill, but also a deep musical understanding and appreciation for rhythm. My goal is to make tabla learning enjoyable, intuitive, and tailored to each student’s pace and aspirations—whether you’re aiming to accompany bhajans at home or perform on stage in classical or fusion settings.

Teaching Techniques and Methods

I follow a structured yet flexible approach grounded in the traditional guru-shishya parampara while integrating modern tools for effective learning. My methods include:

Step-by-step instruction on hand technique, posture, and clarity of bols. Slow-to-fast progression for kaidas, relas, tukdas, and other compositions. Use of clapping and vocal recitation (padhant) to internalize rhythm. Practice tracks and video reviews to aid independent learning. Introducing compositions from both Delhi and Farukhabad Gharanas with context and musicality. Emphasis on listening, improvisation, and accompaniment dynamics across genres

What Makes My Teaching Unique

Blend of tradition and versatility – I specialize in both classical tabla and multi-genre accompaniment (bhajans, thumri, folk, fusion, jazz). Performance-oriented teaching – I train students to become confident accompanists, not just solo players. Musician’s mindset – I focus on listening, sensitivity, and musical interaction rather than rote playing. Supportive learning environment – Encouraging, adaptive, and patient with learners of all kinds

Who Can Join

My classes are open to:

School students (age 8+) starting Tabla or preparing for music exams. College students and adults looking to explore or advance their rhythm skills. Professional or hobbyist musicians seeking to deepen their accompaniment abilities. Learners from India and abroad, thanks to flexible online sessions
