About Rafael

Bonjour ! Comment ça va ?

My name is Rafael. I hold a degree in Languages (Portuguese and French) from the Federal University of Pelotas and a master’s from the University of São Paulo.

I’ve taught at the Alliance Française in São Paulo, and from now on, I’d also like to become your teacher!

I’ve been studying French for 11 years, 9 of which I’ve dedicated to teaching. I have experience as a teacher and interpreter, working with a wide range of students—from elementary school children to retired adults, in group settings or one-on-one classes. Many of my students have successfully passed the DELF, DALF, or TCF exams, obtained scholarships, and even residency visas.

About the lesson

To learn a language, you need to have as much exposure to it as possible. That’s why I use authentic materials in different formats to showcase the richness and diversity of the French language.

I usually work with the Défi method, which is built on an “action-oriented” approach. This method focuses on mobilizing the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to complete tasks, such as explaining your routine, talking about your holidays, or giving your opinion on a topic. Special emphasis is placed on oral production—I’ll make you speak a lot (we might even gossip in French, haha!), making the most of our time together in class.

Don’t worry — I’m committed to ensuring that the course plan is perfectly tailored to your reality. In addition to Défi, we’ll use films, music, blogs/vlogs, literature, and articles from newspapers and magazines to discuss cultural and societal issues. The goal is to develop not only your linguistic skills (oral and written) but also your sociocultural competencies.

I also work with advanced students, including those preparing for exams such as the TCF or DELF/DALF. My students have achieved excellent results, often scoring above 80% in higher levels like B1 and B2.

Classes last about 1 hour, though they can be adjusted based on your availability, and are held via Google Meet.

I am generally flexible with scheduling, which is one of the perks of private lessons. However, to guarantee the right to reschedule, I kindly ask for a 24-hour notice, except in cases of force majeure.

No matter your goal or level, our classes will be lighthearted, filled with laughter, exchanges, and learning. Learning a language requires effort, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun and enjoyable, right?
