About Julia

I am an experienced Teaching Assistant specialising in SEND, with 5 years of experience working in schools, supporting children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. I currently work in an infant school, where I support children both academically and emotionally to help them thrive.

I have experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay and Down Syndrome, as well as children who need extra help with confidence, focus, or emotional regulation. I understand that every child learns differently, and I tailor my support to suit each child’s individual needs and learning style.

My main areas of support include:

My teaching style is calm, patient and encouraging. I strongly believe that children learn best when they feel safe, understood, and enjoy what they are doing. I use a supportive, child-centred approach to build confidence while reinforcing key skills at an age-appropriate pace.

I work closely with parents, keeping communication open and adapting sessions based on progress or areas of concern. Lessons are always personalised, with the aim of helping children feel proud of their achievements and more confident in their abilities.

I also have ADHD myself, which helps me to better understand the daily challenges some children face. This allows me to connect with children empathetically and use their interests and curiosity to support learning in a positive way.

I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and have up-to-date safeguarding training, offering parents reassurance that their child is in safe and experienced hands.

About the lesson

Lessons are calm, structured, and flexible, designed to support children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with their Maths, English and Phonics.

Each session is tailored to your child’s individual needs, learning style, and confidence level. I focus on creating a safe and supportive learning environment, where children feel relaxed and motivated to learn.

Sessions may include:
• Phonics and early reading support
• English and early writing skills
• Maths and number confidence
• Confidence building and emotional regulation
• Support with focus, attention, and engagement

I use engaging, age-appropriate activities and adapt sessions as needed, including movement breaks or visual supports where helpful. I regularly review progress and am always happy to discuss how your child is getting on.

My aim is to help children build strong foundations in learning while developing confidence, independence, and a positive attitude towards school.

This is the best teacher you could hire!! I first got to know Julia 2 years ago when she was my son’s 1:1 support in reception class. My son’s speech was delayed and by the time he started school he did not speak much. We were so fortunate that our son got to have such an amazing person like Julia to help him and it is largely because of her that he made such huge progress during that important first year in school!
Julia is an excellent teacher, very patient and friendly. In fact, she is so great that we recently hired Julia to help our son to prepare him for next year when he enters year 3. My son is so excited to learn with her again that he asks even on the days when Julia is not coming if she could come to our house to teach him. Julia gets 5 stars from our family!!
