About LAUREEN
I am a native French, and was a reader as a teenager.
However, I like English. My level was scholar until on a holiday (19 years old) that gave me the opportunity to read a full English book. It was a fairy book.
It offered me a new door full open to discover a new culture, new cultures since there are some differences between the Great Britain, U.S.A., Australia, South Africa... and other countries that still use English as a granted official language.
So if you want to better know people from another country , then you need to be able to read their writings to understand their culture, habits, etc.
I began in a world without internet and without online services.
Now you have the chance to use better tools, but you still need to be able to know the basics, and reuse them in accordance with rules.

It depends of the age, the background, the ability to draw or use images, the basics acquired in the native language.
So from that, I will have to build a progression.
The UK TESOL method in phonetics is to teach sounds by 2 sounds in a row per sequence. It is short and intense, but known to provide better results. Kids learn to differentiate two sounds and keep in mind the comparison.
We begin with the listening, then the speaking of an event / an image... or repeating lyrics, then the meaning/understanding/reading, thus the writing.
Sounds lead to words and meaning(s), that leads to sentences (conjugation, order of words, affirmative/negative/question sentence, functional blocks within a sentence / with in a paragraph / within a resume, etc.) and other technical aspects.
