About Karen
Ear-led music is the heart of my 13 years of teaching. Tuning by ear is the most important skill for a violinist.
My fiddle playing is rooted in oral tradition where we learn tunes by listening. I hold a BM Music Performance degree and enjoy guiding beginners or advanced players alike.
Ornaments are built by imitation during our sessions. My goal is to help you loosen up your posture and hold. I work with grade exam candidates to ensure they handle ABRSM and Trinity requirements. I find great joy in watching students develop their own unique voice.

Intonation is often a struggle for students starting out. I admit that I still find the perfect bow stroke to be a challenge. We focus on bowing technique and left hand agility to solve this. Music theory and sight reading are integrated into every minute we spend together.
You will master vibrato through consistent practice. Posture must be relaxed to succeed.
Ear training remains a priority for every student. My methods honor the folk tunes I love. Grab your violin and let us start playing.
