This initial evaluation ensures we build a practice plan that matches your current ability. My 10 years of experience with the RCM syllabus allows me to navigate grade exams for ABRSM and Trinity with precision.
We spend time building a solid foundation through exercises that target your weak points. I emphasize clear communication so you understand exactly why a certain movement matters. Performing across Canada for 13 years led me to settle into the studio environment where I now address your specific goals directly. My BMus from the UBC School of Music informs how I view the instrument, though I keep things conversational and grounded. I often work with self-taught players who need a clearer path forward.
My teaching focuses on the RCM syllabus, which provides a reliable framework for students of all backgrounds. Dealing with shifting positions and intonation is part of the work, but I prioritize how it feels to play.
I have guided many students through complex bowing techniques like spiccato and staccato. My experience includes working with teens who are ready to take their technique to a higher level. I treat every session as a chance to refine tone production and vibrato.
Working through double stops is much easier when we break the mechanics down slowly. I play folk music at home when I am not teaching, which keeps my own ears sharp and open.
