• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  I give credit to the environment that I was brought up in that developed my interest in Music. Music was part of every celebration and no day was ever complete without it. I first tried out Guitar in school and knew I loved it since the very first time. The strained fingertips, the early morning practise sessions, I enjoyed every bit of it.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  I have immense respect & gratitude towards all the teachers I've learnt from. Teaching is truly more than just a profession. It's an Art. The art of giving. The only way to spread the joy of music is to give back the knowledge the way my teachers shared with me.

• How does your work help society?

  In order to be a good Musician, one must first be a good listener. It teaches us to not just hear but to listen. It teaches us it be in tune and conscious of our surroundings.
  Music is a way to express one's individuality. Most of the problems between human beings are caused due to either repressing one's emotions or misunderstanding our own emotions. Music gives people an outlet to speak about anything & everything under the sun & beyond.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  My role model for my work is my mother. I admire her zest for life, music & art. She planted the seed of music & creativity in me without ever pushing me to pursue it. She always found a way to stay in touch with the arts whilst running a successful clinic and being a full-time mom and made it all look very easy.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  I am very fond of Gardening. When I'm not teaching, I'm researching what plants to grow next.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  A little snippet about one of my students who has been learning guitar with me for the past 5 months: I gave her examples of a lot of wonderful songwriters and the techniques & tools they use while writing and recently she played me her first original composition. The excitement on her face was indescribable. It was like she discovered a whole new world, a whole new voice of her own.
