About Yogaratnah Selvarajah

Welcome! Meet Your Educator

Hello and welcome! My name is Yogaratnah Selvarajah, a passionate English language educator dedicated to helping secondary school students discover their voice and master the English language.

As a candidate pursuing a Bachelor in Teaching English as a Second Language (BTESL) who has completed a secondary school teaching internship, I bring formal pedagogical training directly into every session. My classroom experience has equipped me with proven, modern teaching strategies that make learning structured, engaging, and effective.

Why Choose My Lessons?
Empathetic & Adaptable Teaching:
I recognize that every student learns at their own pace. Whether you struggle with basic grammar foundation or want to perfect your essay writing for SPM, I tailor my guidance to meet your unique needs.
A Safe Space to Grow:
Learning a language requires confidence. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building their skills step by step.
Structured & Clear Methodology:
Using research-backed techniques like interactive visual tools, step-by-step scaffolding, and targeted practice, I make complex topics approachable and clear.

My goal is not just to help you pass your exams, but to equip you with communication skills and confidence that last a lifetime. Together, we will turn language challenges into your greatest strengths!

About the lesson

Hello! I am Yogaratnah Selvarajah, a dedicated English educator completing my Bachelor in Teaching English as a Second Language (BTESL). Having recently completed my teaching internship at a secondary school, I bring hands-on classroom experience in design, scaffolding, and managing interactive English lessons tailored to secondary students.

Target Audience & Lesson Format
My lessons are specifically designed for Form 1 to Form 5 secondary students (ages 13 to 17) preparing for classroom evaluations and SPM examinations. Standard lessons run for 1 to 2 hours, providing enough time for deep understanding, practice, and feedback without causing mental fatigue.

Proficiency-Based Methodology & Techniques
I believe that every student learns differently, so my instruction is tailored directly to student proficiency levels:
For Lower Proficiency Learners:
I focus on building foundational confidence using step-by-step scaffolding, visual aids, interactive graphic organizers, and simplified grammar routines. We break complex essay structures and reading passages into manageable chunks so learning feels achievable rather than overwhelming.

For Intermediate to Advanced Learners:
I implement communicative tasks, critical thinking exercises, vocabulary expansion, and exam-focused strategies to refine essay writing mechanics, analytical reading skills, and speaking fluency.

Through structured practice, immediate feedback, and patience, I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel safe making mistakes and growing their language skills.
