About Nicole
My mother taught me to sew and cross stitch when I was a child, and I taught myself to quilt in college. I like to always be learning something new, so I have a wide range of skills and techniques to offer: sewing, mending, cross stitch, blackwork, wool appliqué, patchwork, English paper piecing, machine quilting and binding, and the list goes on. I have taught three friends to quilt, from cutting to attaching the label; I also used to lead the Knitting Group at the Institute for Advanced Study, and am experienced at teaching total beginners how to knit and crochet. For quilting, I like to be able to take a student all the way through a mini quilt, a 12" block that we can choose fabrics for, cut, piece, quilt, and bind together. For knitting and crochet, I encourage students to practice between sessions, to build muscle memory. We'll start from absolute basics, and as you gain skill and confidence, move on to refinements, and try different things depending on your interests. Every student has their own strengths, weaknesses, and ambitions, so I tailor my approach to each individual. I foster a supportive, positive learning environment where student and teacher can enjoy crafting together.
