Student can be of any age. All are welcome. Firstly, I go by the basic pronunciations, words based on it, then the meaning. Classes will also be taken at an advanced level if you are already familiar with the basics. I MAINLY focus on the inner meaning and beauty, to bring about a deep understanding and will also narrate the stories related. My class has 2 main objectives depending on your need: a. Understanding the language (using mythological stories & shlokas, for all age groups) I structure the class based on your need. I use E-books and PowerPoint Presentations for online classes. • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

    Sanskrit represents our heritage and culture. It is the Deva Bhasha (God’s Language). It answers the biggest question marks of life with simplicity. My grandmother persuaded me to take Sanskrit as a second language, so I understand the Shlokas better. It sparked my initial interest. As I progressed, deciphering the language, to understand its core, gave me the zeal.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

    My mother is a dedicated school teacher. Seeing her enlighten students with moral values, inspired me immensely. She was the starting point of this incredible journey.
  • How does your work help society?

    Sanskrit is the mother language for nearly every regional language in India. It is the very essence of what we are. To me, Sanskrit is an eternal guide. A lot of people neglect Sanskrit and regret it later on. It teaches you values for life. One develops purity in speech, mind and becomes humble automatically as they learn Sanskrit. A Sanskrit student undoubtedly turns out as a morally excellent character.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

    My instructors are my role models. They helped me in realising the beauty of language. I am eternally grateful for my school teacher Mrs. Muthulakshmi, College Professor Gowri.T Raghavendran, and my mother. I developed the need for patience, intense passion towards the language, and professional ethics from the three of them respectively. The combined characteristics of these Gurus inspired me to teach the beauty of Sanskrit to everyone.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

    Apart from teaching, I am very interested in philosophical discussions, journaling, listening to Carnatic music, reading mythology and fictional novels. I spend almost half my earning on books and art/stationery supplies.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

    One transformational shloka that comes to my mind is a verse from Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 6, Verse 35).

    असंशयं महाबाहो मनो दुर्निग्रहं चलम् |
    अभ्यासेन तु कौन्तेय वैराग्येण च गृह्यते ||

    “Lord Krishna said: O mighty-armed son of Kunti, what you say is correct; the mind is indeed very difficult to restrain. But by practice and detachment, it can be controlled.”

    I was struggling with anxious thoughts without a purpose in life. This shloka on how to subdue my mind gave me the power to free myself and transformed me.

    The other quote my professor frequently insisted on: “If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” ― Zig Ziglar.
