About Luke

**February 2026 Update** 17/20 of my 2 hour slots are booked. 3 Slots left!

I am 'Luke the Law Tutor' and have tutored law for approaching 15 years at all levels: Law Foundation, LLB, LLM, PhD, Law with Business. I also teach both the BPTC/BVC (Barrister Course) and the LPC/SQE (Solicitor Course) and boast an impressive 100% pass rate.

I know many consider law a difficult subject, so did the hundreds of students before they had tuition with me. However, in my experience, I think this is just down to the poor way in which law is taught in most Universities. If it feels like every lecture is just someone reading from a law textbook (or even worse, reading from textbook extracts they've copied into a powerpoint!) and every Seminar seems random as you jump from topic to topic without any real learning - then you are not alone.

Such ineffective teaching does everyone a disservice: 1) it makes the law seem hard and puts people off; 2) it cripples your motivation and your exam results suffer; 3) it is poor value for money!

Now, I can't promise to make the law fun. But I can promise to make it more accessible and easier to understand. I give real life-contexts and examples so the information sticks, and we practise actual exam papers and questions to build up your confidence and show you how the law really isn't that difficult after-all. This is why I've had students jump from a 55% to a 75% in just one term.

The law has developed over milennia; finely crafted and refined by judges over many cases. While it isn't perfect, it does make sense and it is (largely) principle-based and logical. Once you grasp the fundamentals, it all flows nicely - you just have to get the foundations right and not rush ahead.

*AI Update/Warning 2026*
Most of the problems I have identified in the past few years root to an over-reliance on AI by law students and the mistaken belief that the likes of ChatGPT, which is predominantly trained on google results and Reddit, is somehow legally omniscient. There is no legal expert on overwatch checking the outcomes of its predictive modelling which is why AI is frequently completely wrong (albeit convincingly so).

The concerning impact of this is that it lulls students into a false sense of confidence/knowledge which results in 2.2 grades. Not only that, but AI 'slop' is instantly recognisable by the experts actually marking your work and while turnitin may say 0% similarity, it's clear when AI has been used or relied upon - and the veneer of expertise the work presents is quickly pierced with your poor grade reflecting this.

For the avoidanced of doubt, I will say it again. Relying on AI for your legal education is akin to building a house on a foundation of playdough. While you might not recongise that the AI has failed to apply Section 62 of the LPA 1925 to upgrade an in personam right to a right in rem - your examiners will and so will your supervisors down the line.

In other words, if you actually want to have a successful career in law - university is the point at which you must develop your critical thinking and drafting skills which means it is ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them as it is all part of the process. When they are not your mistakes, and you are doing nothing more than regurgitating the outputs of a predictive algorithm lacking in expertise, nuance and insight, you will never be able to know right from wrong; and critically, never yourself develop the expertise, nuance and insight that the profession and your clients will demand from you.

Availablility

I am a full time tutor and work throughout the year - reflecting the different start dates of Law / Professional Courses. My diary opens for the traditional academic year on the 1st of August and for the past 8 years I have been fully booked by the end of the day. I've tutored my average student for 3 years (usually beginning in 2nd Year, through to LLM and professional courses) though I am having an increasing number of students start at the beginning of LLB Year 1.

I am fortunate that my success, academic background and reputation means I am over-subscribed throughout the year, so please do not delay in messaging me to secure a place.
