About Catherine

I am a lifelong musician and vocalist. I began vocal lessons at the age of 5, and have continued my study of the voice ever since. I earned a bachelor degree from USC's Thornton School of Music as well as the Berklee College of Music five week programme. I am a working session vocalist living and working in London after doing the same in Los Angeles for 10 years. I was granted a Global Talent Visa by Arts Council England to come live and work as a musician in London. I have my own indie folk project Honeycraft as well as providing vocals for EDM artists under the alias Glasscat. The two projects combined have garnered over 5 million streams on Spotify. It's my passion to work with unique singers from all around the world and guide them in their artistic journey. Singing is a joy, an art, and a lifestyle to me. I'd love to share that joy with you.

About the lesson

I believe that everyone comes into the world with a natural and powerful command of the voice--think of how loudly a tiny newborn can cry! Over time, people tell us to quiet down, "use our inside voices"; and we lose this innate gift. My job is to help you remember that ease and strength. Once I do this, you will be amazed by the things your voice can do. I have been studying the voice for over twenty years and am a graduate of the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. I also have a popular YouTube vocal educational channel with over 4 million views and 40,000 subscribers. My methodology combines a deep understanding of your physiology with the physics of sound to create, scientifically, the best sound that the human body is capable of creating. When we are singing, we are both the trumpet player and the trumpet: both the cavity that the sound reverberates in and the supplier of the wind to create that reverberation. This, in a nutshell, is the difference in the way I teach. Want to belt powerfully? I know the secret to getting a beautiful, bright sound with no vocal strain. Struggling with pitch? I know it seems hopeless, but pitch is simply a game of muscle memory. We'll get those muscles right in shape so they work with you rather than against you. Want to find your own unique voice? Every lesson begins with progressive muscle relaxation and a deep centring. Using the ideas of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, we conduct each lesson from this centred, quiet space so that you are free of the kind of stress that impedes authenticity. These methods changed my voice and gave me freedom as a singer. They will do the same for you, and you will get back that beautiful expressiveness that has always been with you. Lessons range from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. Available for ages 6 and up. Available for beginner, intermediate and advanced students.
