About Karen

Hi, I'm Karen, a native speaker with 8 years of teaching experience.

My goal is to help you speak with confidence in real-life situations, whether you're meeting a Japanese person, ordering food at a restaurant, or asking for directions while travelling there.

With so many self-study tools like available these days, like textbooks, YouTube, and AI, I focus on offering something different: real conversation practice, personalised feedback, encouragement, structure, accountability, and a supportive space to build your confidence.

In our lessons, you'll learn essential words and phrases, and then we’ll put them to use through fun, interactive activities like role-play, card/board games, boardgames, pictionary, and more - because fun makes it stick!

About the lesson

My own language learning experience:

I lived in Sweden for two years and took language classes at university.

The focus was mostly on input, so I didn't get much chance to speak or receive feedback from the teacher, and I didn’t feel very confident in my pronunciation.

One day, at a supermarket, I wanted to ask a staff member where the flour was.

It’s a simple sentence - “Var är mjölet?” but I felt so anxious.

Is my pronunciation okay?
What if he doesn't understand me?
What if I can't understand his reply?

After going back and forth in my head for a while, I didn’t approach him at all.

8 years later, I try to offer the kind of lessons I wished I had - where you practise, make mistakes, gain confidence, and be ready for the real world!

She prepares thoughtful toys and picture books that really capture his interest, and the sessions always feel natural, playful, and engaging rather than instructional.

What we appreciate most is how relaxed and happy our child is during the sessions — he looks forward to them every time and often doesn’t want her to leave.
Her warm, patient manner creates a safe and enjoyable environment where language exposure happens naturally through play.
