About Matthew
I am a committed saxophone tutor with over 12 years of experience working with college students. My teaching philosophy is based on patience, clarity, and steady improvement. I focus on helping students understand both the technical and expressive sides of saxophone playing.
My lessons cover tone quality, breathing techniques, finger movement, rhythm accuracy, and performance practice. I combine structured exercises with creative activities like improvisation to keep lessons interesting. Real-world music examples help students connect practice with actual playing.
I use innovative learning tools such as recording reviews, play-along practice, and goal-based lesson planning. I also teach music theory, ear training, and sight-reading to support overall musical development.

My Saxophone teaching methodology is designed to help students progress steadily through understanding, creativity, and discipline. I focus on creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable and confident. Lessons begin with essential techniques such as breath support, tone production, embouchure control, finger technique, and reading music.
Creativity is encouraged through improvisation exercises, melody exploration, and learning music from different styles. I guide students as a mentor, helping them stay motivated and develop confidence in their abilities. I believe mentorship is important for building both musical and personal growth.
Critical thinking is developed by teaching students how to understand rhythm patterns, scales, and musical structure. Students learn to think musically rather than just follow instructions. Accountability is built through structured practice schedules, progress tracking, and regular reviews. In addition to Saxophone, I teach Music Theory, Sight Reading, Ear Training, and Performance Skills to help students become well-rounded musicians.
