About Lily
Hi, I’m Lily — a literature lover, editor, and tutor with a deep belief in the power of words to change how we see the world and ourselves. I studied English Literature at Durham University and am now studying for Master’s at King’s College London, where I specialised in Contemporary Literature, Culture and Theory. Teaching, for me, isn’t just about ticking boxes or memorising quotes. It’s about helping students find their voice, ask bold questions, and learn how to express complex ideas with clarity and confidence. Whether you're tackling GCSE coursework, preparing for A-Level or IB exams, writing your personal statement, or just trying to get to grips with a tricky text, I’ll meet you where you are and guide you forward. I’ve worked with students of all ages and levels, and I also have editorial experience in academic and publishing settings — so I bring an eye for detail, structure, and polished expression to everything we do. I take a student-led, discussion-based approach that builds confidence, sharpens analytical thinking, and develops clear, persuasive writing. Every lesson is tailored to the student’s goals, whether they’re aiming for top exam results, developing essay technique, applying to universities or learning to enjoy literature more deeply. Lessons typically run for 60 minutes, but I can adapt this to suit the student’s needs and attention span. Sessions often combine close reading of texts, structured writing tasks, and interactive discussion to build both knowledge and independent thinking. I also provide detailed feedback and study resources to support students between lessons. I hold a degree from Durham University and am studying towards an MA in Contemporary Literature and Theory from King’s College London. I’ve worked with a wide range of students, from GCSE, IB and A-Level learners to undergraduates. I also have editorial experience in academic and publishing contexts, which informs my attention to clarity, structure, and precision in students’ writing. I specialise in English Literature, essay writing, and exam preparation, and I’m passionate about helping students find their voice and flourish academically.
