Greetings! I am Sudie Abernathy, a seasoned musician, producer, vocalist, composer, writer, and music instructor, with over 28 years of enriching experience in the vibrant world of music. As a distinguished alumna of Southern Methodist University, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Music, I embarked on my musical odyssey, ignited by the creation of my first composition and the commencement of vocal training long before that.
My musical journey has traversed diverse landscapes, spanning genres such as country, jazz, musical theater, indie, pop (including The Seth Riggs Method), experimental, classical, and opera. Complementing my musical prowess, I have delved into the realms of acting and performance, amplifying my artistic repertoire.
With a steadfast commitment to nurturing talent and fostering creativity, I offer personalized guidance tailored to your unique musical aspirations. VOICE:
Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced: Proper breathing technique, pitch recognition, reducing vocal strain, learning methods for reaching the most healthy and natural way of singing and training to have endurance and stamina (these techniques are extremely useful for seasoned musicians who are looking to record an album or go on tour). Sudie has studied various genres including Jazz, Musical Theater, Pop/Modern (the Seth Riggs Method) and has a BA in Vocal Performance (Opera training).
PIANO:
Beginner / Intermediate: basic music theory including rhythm recognition, reading sheet music, scales, how to build chords, time signature, key signature, etc. If pairing with voice: learn scales for vocal warm ups, learn how to accompany yourself while singing. This is useful for songwriting and jamming with friends as well!
PRODUCTION:
Beginner / intermediate: How to build a beat, select instruments, manipulate sounds, EQ, record and mix live audio in Ableton, Logic, or Garageband (comes pre-installed on Mac). We will learn how to build demos for covers or your own work, all the way to finishing a final mix to be able to release your own music.
SONGWRITING:
Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced: Confidence to pursue your own sound. We will break down the key components of songwriting such as melody, harmony, lyrics, song structure, and arrangement. We will navigate the creative process, from initial idea generation to finalizing a polished song. We will also cover ideas such as lyrical analysis, and the use of songwriting software or tools.
MUSIC THEORY:
Beginner/Intermediate: We will learn the fundamentals of music theory including but not limited to scales and modes, intervals, how to build chords and make progressions, functional harmony, composition techniques and improvisation.
PERFORMANCE:
Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced: We will learn the confidence to showcase your craft in front of others. This personalized experience will be tailored to how YOU want to showcase your artistic expression. We will focus on stage presence like how to perform with a mic, the vocal performance to accompany your movements on stage, how to set up what you need for a live performance including equipment, gear, and fashion.
ARTIST DEVELOPMENT:
Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced: If you’re looking to start releasing music, playing shows, or collaboration, I will help you figure out steps to get you to where you’re wanting to go. We will cover any kind of musical skill enhancement that you need to improve as you are on your journey, performance and stage presence, personal branding and image, industry insights, career planning, and some digital marketing strategies.
