About Vikram

I have been playing the instrument for almost 20 years now. In a lot of ways, I have grown with the instrument and our relationship has evolved over the years. I have studied all the eight grades in both Keyboard and some in Music Theory and have passed all of them with either merit or distinction. I love writing and writing about music. I have been in a band that composed music of a complex style for a time, now I try to do it myself while sharing my knowledge with people- you could be one of them! I have learned the craft further by several modes of research of my own and also attending personal classes and workshops of my favorite musicians- Jordan Rudess, Guthrie Govan and Richard Henshall, who are all masters of the craft and have elevated the art of both playing and composing to new heights.

About the lesson

This is a combined instrument and music theory class. In short, I help students learn to play and learn understanding what they play. Understanding art is fundamental to creating and enjoying it. While starting out, a lot of musicians focus on mastering the instrument and this tenacious process has a tendency to make them overlook the importance of music theory until the later stages. Once this realization sets in, they put in strenuous efforts to study theory (which is a science of its own and must be studied for as long as one learns the instrument) within a short period of time that suddenly overwhelms said musician and they tend to ignore it altogether. Because of this, I am incorporating the subject of theory along with the art of playing the piano in a cohesive manner to help you gain a vast understanding of what I teach at the deepest musical level. My ultimate goal is for my students to possess enough knowledge of both playing the piano and music theory to be able to start composing music of their own if they wish to do so.

The rates for learning the instrument and music theory that would help you grow proficient in both is 1250/lesson and I also coach for Trinity exams, the rates for which would be 2000/lesson. There is also the option of a 40min session that costs 750, but I don't recommend this unless you are in a time constraint.
