About James
I started learning trombone aged 7. I was a loud and enthusiastic kid, so I met my musical partner in the trombone, going on to play in brass groups, orchestras, jazz quarters, big bands, and competing in solo competitions.
I was fortunate to be taught by an equally enthusiastic and kind teacher, where I learnt the value of teaching with love for the instrument that fuels the discipline it requires to learn a musical instrument.
I started teaching aged 16 and continued after university, where I achieved first class honours in my final performance on trombone.
I played with the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra during my time there, and have taught and supported students of all ages and abilities through the privilege of all my experiences.

Your lessons will be built around a central theme. That the best way to play is to love what you're playing.
Technique is foundational. Understanding is essential. And, I will always tailor the lessons to your preference and passion.
But the reason I continued playing trombone in orchestras across the country wasn't those things. It was the sheer love of the instrument.
The sound, the creative potential and the awesome experience of playing trombone - together, we'll go on an adventure with the grandest, loudest, most powerful instrument in the orchestra. To learn to play it and, if I've done my job, love playing it!
