About Gavin

Music has the power to inspire, connect, and transform lives, and I consider it a privilege to help students experience those benefits through trumpet education. My teaching approach combines professional instruction with patience, encouragement, and personalised coaching so every student feels supported throughout their learning journey.

I work with beginners, intermediate learners, advanced performers, hobbyists, and aspiring professionals, adapting every lesson to suit their individual goals and experience levels. Students build a strong foundation through posture, breathing, embouchure, articulation, rhythm, scales, tone production, music reading, and finger coordination before exploring advanced topics including flexibility, endurance, range development, phrasing, dynamics, ear training, sight reading, orchestral literature, jazz improvisation, solo performance, ensemble skills, advanced tonguing techniques, audition preparation, and stage presence.

Beyond developing technical ability, I encourage students to become confident performers, thoughtful musicians, and independent learners through structured practice routines, performance coaching, and constructive feedback. My goal is to ensure that every lesson is educational, engaging, and enjoyable while helping students reach their highest musical potential.

About the lesson

Every trumpet student has unique goals, which is why I create customised lesson plans that encourage steady progress and lasting confidence. Students receive step by step instruction in breathing, embouchure, articulation, tone production, rhythm, scales, music reading, and finger coordination before advancing to flexibility training, endurance, lip slurs, range expansion, phrasing, dynamics, and sight reading.

Advanced learners receive specialised coaching in orchestral music, jazz improvisation, solo repertoire, advanced articulation, ensemble performance, audition techniques, and performance psychology. I believe in creating a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel motivated to ask questions, develop discipline, and enjoy every lesson while achieving measurable results.
