About Jalen

Hi, I'm a passionate piano tutor with over 14 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Piano Emphasis. I've had the joy of guiding students of all ages and skill levels—from absolute beginners to advanced performers and professional musicians. I specialize in a wide range of piano types, including Grand, Player, Digital, Upright, Electric Keyboard, Classical, and Acoustic pianos. My lessons are rooted in strong fundamentals, with a special focus on chord theory, ear training, improvisation, sight-reading, and expressive technique. I believe that every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to match your goals, interests, and pace. Whether you're a school student looking to master the basics or an adult learner exploring piano as a creative outlet, I'm here to support you. I work closely with each student to develop both technical skill and musical expression. We explore everything from classical pieces to modern pop, jazz, and blues—always with curiosity and fun. I also incorporate music theory in practical, engaging ways that bring clarity to your playing. My goal is to make you feel confident, inspired, and equipped to reach your full potential. If you're ready to begin or deepen your musical journey, I’d love to help you take that first step with confidence and creativity.

About the lesson

My piano teaching approach blends technique, creativity, and personal growth. I focus on building strong foundations through proper hand posture, finger strength, and keyboard awareness. Every lesson is tailored to the student's pace, goals, and learning style.

I guide students through sight-reading, music theory, and chord recognition, making sure they understand how music works. We also work on ear training to help them identify notes, intervals, and rhythms by sound. I emphasize expressive playing and stage presence to boost confidence in performance.

Whether you're a young beginner with natural flair or an adult rediscovering music, I help you find joy in every note. I support students in preparing for exams, competitions, or simply playing their favorite songs. Creativity is encouraged—I welcome improvisation, original composition, and exploring different styles like classical, pop, jazz, funk, and soul.

Lessons are engaging and structured, with regular feedback and achievable goals. I also incorporate digital tools like metronomes, backing tracks, and notation software when helpful. Above all, I aim to make learning piano a fun and inspiring journey that lasts a lifetime.
