About Ben

As a currently active instructor at a local university, I am very passionate about teaching and have a genuine care for the success of my students. My student evaluations have been consistently positive, and nothing satisfies me more than to see my students grasp concepts and do well in their courses.

About the lesson

I have a socratic teaching style in which I collaborate with the student to approach understanding the material in a stepwise, logical manner. I usually start with some background material, and then work on practice problems, progressing in difficulty as the student increases in their understanding. For a subject like Organic Chemistry, which is very structure-based, I believe very strongly in the use of visual aids, such as molecular model kits, to help with understanding of the material. I am available to tutor first year General Chemistry such as CHEM 121/123, and introductory Organic Chemistry I and II such as CHEM 203 and 233 at UBC, and also Organic Chemistry prep for the MCAT exam.
