About Kimmy
I am currently a third year undergrad student at UBC studying Biochemistry. I am aiming to be involved in the medical field and research, with violin being a side hobby. I am very fond of kids and connect very well with teenagers. In my free time, I like to snowboard with my dad and catch up on some reading!

As a current UBC student and experienced violinist, I take an adaptable and student-centred approach to teaching. I have been teaching violin to children and teenagers for the past two years, which has taught me how to adjust my teaching style to different ages, personalities, and learning speeds. With younger students, I aim to make lessons engaging and enjoyable, while with older or more advanced students, I place greater emphasis on discipline, technique, musical interpretation, and independent practice.
A typical lesson includes a warm-up, technical exercises such as scales or bowing work, focused practice on current repertoire, and time to address specific challenges or goals. I also help students develop effective practice strategies and weekly homework so that they know how to improve independently between lessons.
I achieved my LRSM in Violin Performance at the age of 15 and have continued developing my skills through private instruction and performing with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra. My relatively young age also allows me to connect easily with younger students and understand the challenges of learning an instrument from a student's perspective, while my performance experience allows me to provide structured and technically focused instruction.
My lessons are suitable for beginner to advanced violin students, particularly children and teenagers, whether they are learning for enjoyment, preparing for examinations, developing orchestral skills, or working toward higher-level performance goals.
