About Lucy
My name is Lucy and I am a Comparative Literature student at UCL. This degree involves studying literature in translation and comparing texts cross-culturally.
I had a strong love of reading growing up, and I do genuinely believe that this has helped me in both my academic outcomes and in my personal life. I believe strong literacy skills are essential to success in all subjects, both at primary school and beyond. I am happy to help with any literacy-based homework as needs arise, but also will plan lessons to cater to the pupil's current target areas for improvement. My lessons include exercises and activities alongside reading, as I believe actively engaging in problems is the quickest way to retain information and practise new skills.
I strongly believe that a happy learner will be a successful one, and I aim to foster an environment in which my pupils not only improve their skills but also have fun. I believe learning, particularly in relation to literacy, should not be solely-focused on exam outcomes, but should cultivate an inquisitive learner with the necessary skills for all their future endeavours, both academic and otherwise.

I aim to incorporate a wide variety of active, structured reading, alongside comprehension and literacy exercises. I aim to foster an environment in which each child feels open to ask questions and make mistakes. I believe strongly in incorporating the child's current interests into the texts we work with, as I believe literacy improves the fastest when fostered alongside a genuine love of both learning and reading.
