About Yuxing

Good to know a bit more about me: My name is Yuxing, and I am a current UCL Earth Sciences student with a solid foundation in science, humanities, and the arts. As your tutor, my top priorities are to inspire your confidence, establish my legitimacy through my academic background, and reassure you of my professionalism in every session. I am inherently patient—I recognise that every student learns at their own unique pace, and I never rush through concepts or make you feel inadequate for asking questions. I take the time to listen carefully to your doubts, explain ideas in simple, clear, and accessible language, and repeat or rephrase explanations until you fully grasp the material. This approach creates a safe, supportive learning space where you can feel comfortable exploring new topics, asking follow-up questions, and growing without pressure.

My name is Yuxing, and as a current UCL Earth Sciences student with a strong foundation in science, humanities and the arts, I adopt a student-centred tutoring approach that prioritises understanding over rote memorisation. My teaching methodology combines tailored explanations, interactive practice and real-life connections—for example, linking maths and physics concepts to Earth Sciences phenomena, using simple art and music examples to make abstract knowledge accessible, and guiding Chinese learners through practical reading, writing and speaking exercises. I believe in adapting my techniques to each student’s learning style: for visual learners, I use diagrams and illustrations; for auditory learners, I incorporate discussions and verbal summaries; and for kinaesthetic learners, I design hands-on activities to deepen comprehension.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, which I structure to balance revision, new content teaching and feedback: 10 minutes to review previous material and address questions, 40 minutes to teach new knowledge with practice tasks, and 10 minutes to summarise key points, assign light homework and gather feedback from the student. This duration ensures focused learning without fatigue, allowing sufficient time to clarify doubts and reinforce understanding.
As a tutor, my qualifications include being a current UCL undergraduate—studying a degree that requires advanced proficiency in maths, physics and chemistry—alongside years of experience helping peers and younger students improve their academic performance in the subjects I teach. I have helped GCSE and A-Level students strengthen their science skills, supported primary and secondary learners with Chinese literacy, and guided hobbyists in basic music and art techniques, all while fostering a positive, encouraging learning environment that builds students’ confidence.
My lessons are designed for students of various levels and ages: primary and secondary school students (ages 7-16) seeking extra support in maths, physics, chemistry or Chinese; GCSE and A-Level students (ages 16-18) aiming to improve their grades in science subjects or develop their art/music skills for exams; and even beginner learners interested in basic Chinese, music or art. Regardless of their starting level, I focus on identifying their strengths and weaknesses to create personalised learning plans that help them achieve their goals.
