About Mark
As a native-born American from Los Angeles, I have been fortunate to have received a good quality education which resulted in the English degree I received at UCLA. Following that I worked in giving aptitude tests along with career counseling at a private facility in Los Angeles for about three years. Shortly after leaving I then taught English at the Berlitz language school in Los Angeles for about five years. During that same time I put my music skills to work learning piano tuning and repair. But after many years at this, I decided to return to the English and obtained a TEFL certificate enabling me to teach English online and this is exactly what I'm hoping to do at this time.

My teaching is primarily geared toward secondary level students and adults who might already have a minimal understanding of English.
My students would present me with the material they need assistance with, for instance a magazine article they were excited about but they were struggling to read it because of pronunciation problems and an inability to grasp the language that well. So they would listen to how I pronounce the words and then with words they don't understand I would have photos and other images I could show so they then understand the meanings. In the next lesson we would repeat the prior lesson plus add more material including more visual aids I could locate to present them with. We would spend a few more weeks on that same article and I would come up with a test to challenge them. For instance, show a photo I had shown before and see if they can match that with the words they struggled with to understand.
