- Self-taught GCSE & A-level Chemistry, achievied A* in Year 10 and Year 11 respectively

More About Me and My Vision:
Coming from Hong Kong, I studied in the UK since year 8 in a boarding school. I wasn't particularly interested in any subjects and my mediocre grades reflected that when I first came here. It wasn't until Year 9 when my chemistry teacher ignited my interest in chemistry due to how she applied taught concepts to explain observations and natural phenomenons rationally. This led me to start reading chemistry textbooks, which is also when I discovered my deeper passion for organic chemistry, particularly how synthetic steps can be further broken down into mechanisms based on logical interactions, in tune with how I think methodically. This led me to teach myself A-level Chemistry outside of lessons and to take my A-level Chemistry in Year 11, achieving an A*.

I enjoy playing badminton to reduce stress as well as watching documentaries; the most memorable about a child suffering from muscular atrophy who was unable to receive treatments due to the extreme cost. Now aware of this problematic issue, I realise how my passion for organic chemistry has the potential to help the world. I envision myself researching new synthetic methodologies as alternative pathways for synthesis of pharmaceuticals, to lower their costs for greater accessibility to people in need, like the child with muscular atrophy. Beside focusing on my studies, I am currently actively pursuing careers and opportunities that are related to my interest to further broaden my knowledge. This includes tutoring other students as I hope to be someone else's spark to ignite their interest, just like my year 9 chemistry teacher.

About the lesson

I am offering online tuition sessions for GCSE & A-level chemistry and physics, as well as university guidance and personal statement review services.

My work ethics and tutoring approach:
I am a patient, diligent and resourceful tutor able to tailor the lesson according to the student’s needs. My main tutoring approach is to break down a concept into logical steps and guide the tutee through it.

Then, apply their acquired knowledge into questions. If the tutee struggles or answers incorrectly, I would identify where they are struggling at or made a mistake at, then thoroughly explain it and allow them to reach the correct answer instead of directly providing the answer to the question. In my experience, this method can secure knowledge and can even easily apply it in more complex problems.

If the tutee is preparing for exams, we will work through past papers together to identify weaker areas and highlight exam & revision techniques, as well as providing self-written notes and worked answers for past papers.
