About Ayse

I am a visual communication lecturer with over 10 years of teaching experience across University of the Arts London (Central Saint Martins and CCW Foundation Course). Prior to that, I have produced education and community programmes for UK arts organisations, so I understand institutional expectations, how students are evaluated, and what type of challenges young people might face when embarking on creative journeys. I am passionate about youth voice (founded the first ever youth committee at UK's national charity Sound and Music to enable young people to have a say in programming for young people) and hold a relational, student centred approach to teaching. (My PhD is in the Education Department so I am passionate about learning, and learning how to best enable learning:) I have offered mentorship at Camden Art Centre and supported young People's progression at a wide range of settings, so I would always offer a free initial consultation session to understand your needs and decide together if I can be most helpful for you towards that.

I work with young people to adults who are: - developing project work in graphic/communication design and fine art - needing clearer research and writing to support practice - applying to art & design courses (Foundation, BA, MA) - preparing portfolios for UAL, Goldsmiths and similar schools - wanting to explore their creativity and need guidance and support around that (I've always been interested in multitude of things, and experienced it both as a curse and a blessing, so would be keen to help those who might feel overwhelmed!) My approach is relational, playful, curious and developmental: - Initial free consultation session: we look at current work and discuss the goal. - Positioning the work: I help you articulate your concept, context and references, so that we can make a rounded road map towards the goal, with key check in points. - Making and iteration: practical guidance on the project, documentation, reflection skills and presentation. - Writing and reflection: I support artist statements, project descriptions and reflective texts in English. - Understanding assessment: I teach to actual HE criteria (research, experimentation, process, presentation) and can support you understand that criteria while not losing the fun and playfulness of creative projects. Lessons are discussion-based, with clear tasks to complete between sessions. Online sessions use shared documents/images through a shared Google Drive folder which I will host.
