About Mairi
Hi, I'm Mairi! I'm a first-year Biology student at the University of Manchester, and I genuinely love helping people understand things that once felt confusing to me too — there's nothing better than watching something finally click for someone. I got an A* in Biology at A-Level, so I know the syllabus inside out, but more than that, I know what it's like to be the student who needs things explained a different way. My goal isn't just to help with the next exam - it's to build the kind of critical thinking and confidence that means you can work things out for yourself, long after our lessons end. Outside of studying, I compete internationally in running, which has taught me a lot about patience and sticking with something even when it's hard - the same mindset I bring to tutoring.

I take a flexible, student-led approach rather than a one-size-fits-all method, because different brains genuinely learn in different ways - I adapt between visual explanations, worked examples, past-paper practice, and note taking and understanding depending on what clicks for each student. I've tutored my younger sister informally and worked as an assistant surf instructor and supervisory lifeguard with children, so I'm used to adapting my approach and keeping young people engaged. Having a dyslexic older brother has also given me a good awareness of different learning needs. Lessons run for 45 minutes. I bring a strong academic foundation to this, including an A* in Biology at A-Level and my current Biology degree at the University of Manchester (75% first-year average).
