About Darcy-Summer
I am currently in my third year of studying Biology at the University of Oxford, but before this I trained at drama school for four years, which has given me strong communication skills.
I understand that good knowledge doesn't always make a good teacher. I have had many teachers in my time, some incredibly knowledgeable but not necessarily good at conveying that information. This is why I place the student and their understanding at the heart of the lesson, rather than using rigid lesson plans.
I know that different students learn better in different ways. I'm a firm believer in bringing many different teaching techniques into my lessons to find what works for an individual student. I have experience working with students with learning differences and so I'm used to exploring the subject content in ways specific to each student.
I achieved 11 A*s in my GCSEs and 3 As in Biology, Chemistry and English Literature at A level, alongside an A in an EPQ and full-time drama school.

I aim to improve confidence, understanding and test-taking skills, while learning about the subject in an engaging way!
My typical lessons are 1 hour, and I've been 1:1 tutoring for 4 years.
I like to engage the student in back-and-forth discussion of the subject to improve their knowledge through interacting with the content and creating mind maps, as opposed to just listening to me. We will then use practice questions to test their understanding, taking time to ensure the student understands the correct answer, rather than simply having the ability to repeat the correct material.
I love taking time in lessons to explore the subject in a fun way, and I welcome students bringing questions about science that aren't directly on the syllabus - this sort of interest and discovery is what makes science fun!
