About Kenny

I am currently studying piano at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, where I receive university-level training in piano performance, musicianship, music theory, and performance preparation. I also have four years of piano teaching experience, working with students of different ages and learning styles. My own experience as both a music student and teacher has taught me that meaningful progress comes from patience, consistency, careful listening, and an effective practice plan. I am responsible, attentive, and committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence at their own pace. I take time to understand each student’s goals and explain musical ideas in a clear and encouraging way. I can teach in both English and Mandarin, and I am happy to communicate with Mandarin-speaking students and families. Whether a student is learning piano for enjoyment or preparing for an examination, audition, jury, or performance, I approach every lesson with professionalism, care, and respect.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed for beginner and intermediate pianists who want clear guidance, effective practice strategies, and a stronger understanding of music. As a university piano student, I focus on piano fundamentals, music theory, sight-reading, rhythm, ear training, musical expression, and preparation for exams, auditions, performances, or juries.
Each lesson begins by identifying the student’s current goals and challenges. We then work through selected repertoire, solve technical or rhythmic problems, analyze the score, and create a realistic practice plan for the following week. My teaching style is patient, structured, and adapted to each student’s learning pace. Rather than simply telling students what to repeat, I explain why a problem occurs and how to practise it efficiently.
Lessons are available in English or Mandarin and are suitable for children, teenagers, and adult learners. Students are encouraged to bring pieces they are currently learning, along with any questions about theory, interpretation, or performance preparation.
