  • 1) When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

I developed an interest in American Sign Language tutoring because I am Deaf and people often ask me to teach them ASL. Over time, I realized how much I enjoy sharing my language and culture with others. Teaching ASL online allows me to reach more people and inspire them to learn about Deaf culture and communication. I want to show others that ASL is not just a language. It is a bridge that connects communities and promotes understanding and inclusion. The flexibility of online tutoring also made it possible to create meaningful learning experiences that fit different learners’ needs.
  • 2) What makes you passionate about your subject?

I am passionate about ASL tutoring because it comes from my own experience as a Deaf person who values connection and understanding. Many people have asked me to teach them ASL and that inspired me to share my language and culture more widely. I love seeing my students become more confident in signing and learning about Deaf culture. For me, teaching ASL isn’t just about communication. It is about inspiring others to appreciate the Deaf community and helping build a more inclusive world.
  • 3) What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I am a Deaf ASL tutor passionate about sharing the beauty of American Sign Language and Deaf culture. My journey into tutoring began when many people around me expressed a desire to learn ASL. Their curiosity and enthusiasm inspired me to teach and connect with others through my language and experiences.

I’m passionate about ASL tutoring because it allows me to inspire others while promoting accessibility and understanding. Teaching ASL isn’t just about learning signs. It’s about helping students appreciate the Deaf community and build meaningful connections through communication and respect.

What I love most about tutoring is seeing my students grow more confident with every lesson. As a Deaf tutor, I bring real life experience, cultural insight and patience to every session. I strive to make learning ASL engaging, supportive and empowering for each student, helping them not only sign better but also understand the culture and people behind the language.
  • 4) Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

When I was a young girl, I watched a movie called “The Miracle Worker.” It tells the story of a young girl who became Deaf and blind at 19 months old after an illness in 1882. She struggled to communicate with her parents and others around her. I understand her struggle because we share similar challenges. Her parents found her a teacher, Anne Sullivan, who also had vision impairments. Anne patiently helped Helen to read and write through touch and physical sensation, using a manual alphabet to spell words into her hand. Helen Keller went on to become the first Deaf-blind person to earn a college degree and was a successful author and activist for the blind and Deaf. Her famous quote, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart,” is one of my favourites.

I was also inspired by Deanne Bray from the TV show “F.B. Eye.” Watching her show taught me that Deaf people are capable of anything. She demonstrated her abilities by reading lips from a distance and carrying out her work with confidence. She used her deafness as a strength, such as reading lips from afar to gather information. I met her in real life and she was truly inspiring.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

My keys to success are passion, patience and connection. I truly love what I do and that passion shows in the way I teach and communicate with my students. Patience helps me create a comfortable and supportive learning space where everyone can grow at their own pace. Most importantly, I value connection and building strong relationships with my students and helping them connect with the Deaf community through language and culture. I believe success comes from teaching with heart, purpose and authenticity.
