About Emma
Hi! My name is Emma, and I am currently studying Elementary Education at Utah State University. I have always loved working with children and helping them learn and grow. I have experience working with young children in a classroom and childcare setting, which has taught me how important patience, encouragement, and creativity are when helping children learn.
Reading and writing are especially important to me because they create a foundation for so much of a child’s future learning. As a tutor, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace. My goal is not only to help students strengthen their reading skills, but also to help them become more confident and excited about learning!

My teaching approach is patient, encouraging, and individualized to each student. I believe children learn best when they feel comfortable, confident, and excited about what they are learning. I use a combination of phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fluency activities depending on the student’s needs. I also incorporate games, stories, and interactive activities to keep lessons engaging.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of skills we have previously worked on, followed by introducing or practicing a specific reading skill. We may work on letter sounds, blending words, sight words, reading fluency, or comprehension. I like to include guided reading practice and finish with a fun activity or short review to reinforce what we learned.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my background in Elementary Education and my passion for working with children. I understand that every child learns differently, so I am willing to adjust my teaching strategies, pace, and activities to fit each student. I focus on celebrating progress and building confidence rather than making children feel pressured when they make mistakes.
My lessons are best suited for elementary-aged students who need extra support or practice with reading and literacy skills. I can work with beginning readers as well as students who need help strengthening phonics, fluency, vocabulary, or reading comprehension. Lessons can be adapted to the child’s grade level, current abilities, and individual goals.
