About Suzy

I've been tutoring privately for about a year and have had great feedback from my students who value my knowledge, experience and friendly teaching style. They also appreciate having sessions where the focus is based specifically on their needs. I encourage my students every step of the way to develop their interest in and enthusiasm for their subject. There is no substitute for hard work but I believe the process should be enjoyable and enlightening.

About the lesson

My teaching experience has been exclusively with sixth form students and that's where I'm most comfortable. My style is professional but informal. I want to build confidence, maximise potential and really help students to fall in love with literature! Although I specialise in 'A' Level Literature and Drama & Theatre Studies, I also offer tuition in GCSE English. I don't treat Shakespeare like cod liver oil, something that has to be 'taken' or 'done'. I'm extremely enthusiastic about the books, plays and poems I teach. While it's true that we can't enjoy everything we read, (and why would we?), there are always interesting ideas to explore and inspiration we can draw from the texts. I help students to focus on the aims and objectives demanded by the syllabus, whether it's for the examination or coursework. Good study habits, independent learning and effective organisation are crucial to success and these are the elements of my teaching I concentrate on. I always communicate with my students ahead of the lesson to find out exactly what it is they want to study during the session. This means that my teaching remains centred on their needs at all times. My style is professional and friendly. I want to help build confidence and help students to develop good study habits. One of the key things I focus on is how to approach essay writing, how to frame an introduction etc.
