About Chase

I am a sophomore at Central Michigan University studying Viola Performance. I am very dedicated to my craft, and I see myself in the Chicago Symphony by the time I'm 35. It is a huge commitment and a huge challenge, but that's where I'm at. Being born and raised in Michigan, I want to be able to share my work with the people of this state; where I'm playing and performing, all across Michigan. I play in Gaylord Community Orchestra, worked at Kalamazoo Kids in Tune last summer, and have been to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp too many times to count. Music is my life, and I just want to share it with the world, and pass it down to who wants to learn it. Put my name out there, show my worth, and build up from there.

About the lesson

As I said, Anybody can make music. So many people who play stop playing after high school, and I want to be the changing factor. Music in our lives are important. Listening to music and playing music are two completely different things. While we play music, Psychologist Csikszentmihalyi states that we enter this state of 'Flow'. Flow is when we are fully immersed in a task, and we are only doing that task for the intrinsic benefit of that task. Not for money, not for attention, but because its something that interests and excites us.
My biggest fear is new generations missing out on classical music. Yes, it can be boring, yes, it very well can all sound the same. But it's learning and practicing those techniques, sounding better every day that makes us want to see how far we can go. All I ask you, is to see how far you can go. It will be hard, but we'll make it fun. Because learning doesn't always have to be hard and boring. Music was fun for me, and I know it can be for you too! To the young kids to even the adults who even think they might want to try an instrument, all I can say is try it. It changed my life, and I hope I can show you why it's so important!
